SVEN GORAN ERIKSSON last night claimed he was not greedy and had saved the FA "a lot of money" by pocketing only pounds 3.75million since leaving the England job last summer.

The Swede was sacked after the Fake Sheikh sting in January last year Audemar s Piguet Royal Oak but stayed on until after the World Cup flop.

Eriksson (above) still had two years left to run on his contract but agreed a deal to receive full pay for six months - over pounds 13,000 a day - until January 31 - and then half pay until June 30.

He said: "I had a contract until 2008, I was sacked, and if I had zenith chronomaster been greedy I could have asked for money until 2008. I have been more than fair because I agreed to six months' full pay, and six months' half-pay. I think I saved a lot of money for the FA."

Speaking on BBC One's Inside Sport, Eriksson claimed the FA had got a good deal after England failed for the third time at the quarter-final stage of a major tournament under his leadership.

"I couldn't have taken any jobs, I hadn't been offered any job during the season," he said. "I might be offered now when the season is finished."

Eriksson also said he felt no guilt about taking Theo Walcott in his injury-hit squad and then not giving the 17-year-old Arsenal striker a game.

"I don't believe any other strikers at that time could have won the World Cup for us," he explained.
